Ashmour has an interesting history, and dates from Georgian times. It is a Grade 2 listed building. In recent years it was used as a Youth Hostel, but was converted into apartments during 2005. Apartment No 2 is at the front of the building (hence the views), on the first floor. It is accessed via a wide internal staircase.
We are the second owners of the apartment, having purchased it in April 2008. Our aim is to have a lovely place to stay both for ourselves & others. To this end we have equiped it with high quality products, which we hope you will enjoy using, including organic towels for the bathroom & bathrobes. We use Ecover products within the apartment & for all of the laundry.
Over the years we have stayed in some beautiful locations, but have often been dismayed by the uncomfortable beds that we have encountered. We believe that a comfortable bed is an essential for day to day living, and a necessity when on holiday. We hope that you find our choice of bed to your liking!
Our lounge measures 22'3" x 17'6" and has ceilings over 10 feet high. It has the original cornices & ceiling rose, as well as two huge floor to ceiling windows, with the original wooden shutters. There is also a balcony. There are views of the outer harbour, the sea and Hillsborough Iron Age Hill Fort from the lounge windows.
The furniture is arranged to encourage you to relax, whether unwinding or dining. We have 2 very comfortable luxury leather sofas, one of which is a sofa bed, and a full sized dining table with 4 very comfy dining chairs. A micro sound system (CD & Radio) with MP3 facility is provided, as is a Samsung 32 inch LCD TV and a DVD player. We have also provided a range of CD's & DVD's.
Our bedroom is 14'3" x 8'9" and is equipped with a king-size divan bed with a leather headboard. The bed is made up for your arrival, with Egyptian cotton bedding.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, slow cooker, electric toaster plus all of the everyday items that you may need. We also have Denby tableware & lots of cutlery, and for those all important picnics, a picnic set, thermos flask & cool bag for your days out.
On the ground floor there is a utility room with a quality washing machine and tumble dryer that can be used by guests staying at Ashmour.
No 2 Ashmour has one dedicated car parking space.
Mobile Phone Coverage & Internet: we have found that Vodafone consistently gives you really good coverage for 95% of the time at Ashmour. We have tried with O2, 3 and Orange, with mixed results. Orange appears to be 2nd best, but Vodafone really is the best option.
Likewise if you are bringing a 3G iPad with you, we again recommend Vodafone. We tried the iPad on O2 and it was hopeless, but with a Vodafone Sim Card you will be able to get full usage. Alternatively you could bring a MIFI with you. These work extremely well, and are the simple, no fuss solution when travelling away from home.
