John & Judith - Tel. 01454 773760

During 2011 we were almost fully booked throughout the year.  This has been a combination of 1 week breaks, 2 week breaks, long weekends and mid-week breaks.  We have also had a few weeks at Ashmour for ourselves, and still really enjoy being there.

We are continuing using the agency, Marsdens Cottage Holidays, for the whole of 2012.  If you would like to make a 2012 booking you can do so either through the agency, Marsdens Cottage Holidays, or directly by phoning us.  Full details are on our Prices page.

2011 - we were again awarded the highest possible rating for self catering properties by 'Visit England Quality in Tourism'
4 star **** for the 3rd year running, along with their special category award - GOLD, giving us the rating of 4 Star GOLD.

This means that you can confidently book your holiday, knowing that national & international standards are being consistently maintained, and that our apartment is regularly inspected & verified by a reputable outside agency.

The Times Newspaper - 21st August 2009

On 21st August this article appeared in The Times - do have a look to see this up to date review of Ilfracombe.  The writer stayed at our apartment whilst researching and writing this piece.  Despite the poor weather in late July, he obviously enjoyed his stay.

I particularly like his opening paragraph, which I have pasted below........

Looking through the tall windows of a swish Georgian holiday apartment in Ilfracombe, I’m getting a good sense of the town’s appeal. To one side, a towering green-cloaked headland guards the far side of a little rocky bay overlooked by a 13th-century chapel. In the middle, a sheltered harbour full of yachts is framed by a busy quayside. To the west, past an impressive church steeple, a park rises above a line of cafés and restaurants to another headland. The Bristol Channel provides a sweeping blue backdrop.

Have you ever wanted to stay in a private luxury apartment, beautifully appointed, which boasts stunning views of the outer harbour, coast & countryside?

Have you ever wanted more - such as lovely soft towelling bathrobes, Egyptian cotton bedding & organic towels?

Do you want personal recommendations of where to eat for that very special meal out?

Would you like to know which are the best beaches to visit, and which walks take in the best views?

Would you like to enjoy the benefits of a luxury boutique venue, but with no restrictions of when you rise, when you eat & when you sleep?

Have you wanted all these things, but with the added privacy & luxury of your own self catering apartment, so that you can relax & do things in your own time?

Well now you can!

No 2 Ashmour is the front facing first floor apartment in a listed building - the end terrace of a row of Georgian houses built for Ship Captains & other eminent people in the early 1800's.  It has floor to ceiling windows and a balcony, with the most wonderful views.  Original features have been preserved, making it truly something special.

Currently this photo album cannot be viewed an the Apple Ipad.  However, if you click onto the Marsdens link on the Prices page, you will be able to view their photos of our apartment.

Ashmour was converted into luxury apartments during 2005.  Having looked long & hard for a special place to enjoy for our own holidays, we took the plunge & purchased No 2 Ashmour in April 2008.

We are delighted with it!  We spent a couple of months preparing it, putting in all of the extra touches to make our holidays something special, and now invite you to enjoy it too.

Ashmour used to be the Youth Hostel at Ilfracombe.  It is situated on a hillside overlooking the harbour, and is an idyllic place to while away some time.  Our apartment boasts all of the original features, to which we have added contemporary touches, resulting in a unique & lovely setting for your holiday in North Devon.

It is an ideal place to stay, with some wonderful walks literally from the doorstep.  We are just minutes away from the Iron Age Hill Fort at Hillsborough, which makes a pleasant evening walk.  If you enjoy bird spotting, you can do this at your leisure throughout the day, just by looking out of the window towards Hillsborough.

The coastal path is also a delight to do, in this area of outstanding natural beauty.  We have provided several walking maps & route books, as well as a folder in which you can record your own favourite walks for the benefit of other guests.

The wonderful beach of Woolacombe is just a short drive away, and is popular with surfers & with families.  Nearer to home is the Tunnels Beach, which has an interesting, quaint history.

There are also some wonderful bistros just a short walk from the house, several of which we can highly recommend.  Ilfracombe offers a variety of establishments catering to all tastes, from the 'all day breakfast' or 'fish & chips', to the upmarket bistro & restaurant.  See our links page to visit the websites of our favourites.

You can also pre-order a locally sourced farm box of fruit, vegetables & meat via the links page, which can be delivered at a time to suit you.  Flowers and champagne can also be ordered for delivery by our favourite local florist.  Details are on the links page.

June of each year is festival time in North Devon - with events & concerts to suit all tastes, as well as entertainment & educational events for children.  Early September is the North Devon Folk Festival, which has a great line up of artists.  Throughout the year there are many concerts & events taking place at the Landmark Theatre, which is just a short walk from Ashmour.
